This calculator determines the energy released upon impact with Earth based on the meteorite’s diameter, density, and velocity. It uses the given values to calculate the meteorite’s mass and then computes its kinetic energy.
The shape of the meteorite is calculated as a sphere.
The natural range for the velocity of a meteorite impact is 10,000 m/s to 100,000 m/s.
*The results are only approximate.
*Calculations are based on the Hiroshima-type atomic bomb at 6.31 × 10¹³ J and the Tsar Bomba at 2.1 × 10¹⁷ J.
*Calculations are based on c = 299,792,458 m/s. If the entered velocity value exceeds this, it will be replaced with v = (1 - 10⁻¹⁰)c = 0.9999999999c.
