| Lookback Period | Year month(s) day(s) ~ Year month(s) Japan (Calculated from the day before the start of parental leave) |
| (Remedial) Retroactive Period | Year month(s) day(s) ~ Year month(s) day(s)(Calculated from the day before the start of prenatal leave) |
When checking the retroactive period for paternity leave, please enter the “Parental Leave Start Date” in all three fields: “Expected Date of Birth,”
“Date of Maternity Leave Start,” and “Date of Maternity Leave End.”
Similarly, when confirming eligibility for unemployment benefits, enter the date “the day after” the date of separation
in all three fields. The result displayed in the (Relief) field applies.
The maternity leave period prior to parental leave is also counted as one period of leave (excluding “remedial measures”).
“Remedial measures” refers to a situation where, if eligibility requirements are not met when calculated from the day before the “Parental Leave Start Date,” the Job Center instructs you to
rewrite the monthly wage certificate to be calculated from the day before the “Start Date of Prenatal Leave.”
The system does not check for consistency regarding the sequence or discrepancies in dates such as the expected delivery date.
Periods of leave totaling 30 days or more within a basic two-year period are eligible for extension.
The system does not account for intermittent absences due to the same reason.
If you changed jobs without applying for unemployment benefits at the Job Center, the period of your previous employment can also be treated as a period of insurance coverage
(provided there is no gap of more than one year). However, periods of unemployment cannot be treated as periods of leave of absence.
Eligibility is determined based on the retroactive period mentioned above. For each month marked in blue,
you must cross-reference your attendance records to count whether there are 12 months in which you worked 11 or more days.
Due to the wide variety of input patterns, we have not been able to verify all possibilities. We make no guarantees regarding the output results.
Please use this only as a rough guide to how far back you can go.

at least 11 days in 12 months over the past two years. However, if you took maternity, childcare, or nursing care leave,
or were on sick leave during that period, the standard two-year period will be extended by the duration of those leaves.
Although it is often referred to as “going back four years,” this does not mean going back four years for everyone;
rather, it involves calculating exactly how far back the period should be extended.
